Who is Aya Sensei?

Aya Yabe, Principal, Oshiete Aya Sensei!
Aya Sensei believes in you and your dreams. She serves as a coach who lets you take the lead and helps you explore options you may not have thought possible. She brings many years of experience providing multifaceted support to students and offers comprehensive guidance on college and career paths.
Aya Sensei started her teaching career in New York at the Japanese Weekend School of New York, where she taught K-12 students. She was asked to develop a new course that highlighted the strengths of Japanese and English bilingual students. She created a curriculum, Media, in which students discussed current events by comparing articles in the New York Times and the Asahi Shimbun, to hone their critical thinking skills. In 2008, when she was assigned to handle “College Admission Guidance” for high school students, Aya Sensei decided to provide multifaceted support for students born and raised in the US who did not attend weekend school.
Aya’s services stand out because of her emphasis on critical thinking and self-discovery. She helps you think through what matters most to you to give you confidence as you take big steps forward in the next chapter of your life. With her support, you will write compelling essays that help your application stand out. Born in Japan and now living in the US, she is fluent in both English and Japanese. She can help you work across cultures to navigate college admissions processes in the US and Japan. Her warm personality and sense of humor make the process much more fun and less stressful than it might otherwise be.
